돌잔치 (Doljanchi), the Korean first-birthday celebration, is one of the most significant milestones in Korean family life. Historically, reaching a first birthday was an achievement worth celebrating publicly because infant mortality was high. Today it remains a major party with the iconic doljabi (돌잡이) ritual, where the baby's choice of objects from a spread is thought to predict their future. Getting the date right — in both calendars — is the first step.

Step 1 — Find the Exact Dol Date

Age

The dol (돌) falls exactly 365 days after birth — or 366 days if a leap day falls within that year. Crucially, the dol is counted from the actual birth date, not from a Korean counting age calculation. Step 3 — Budget the Venue Deposit
