Derivation & History
Before 1959 the United States and the United Kingdom used slightly different feet: the US survey foot was 1200/3937 metre, about 0.30480061, while the imperial foot was 0.30479947 metre. The agreement adopted 0.3048 exactly for the international foot, leaving the survey foot in use only for United States land surveying until its formal retirement at the end of 2022. Over a 200 m² floor area the difference between the two definitions is under 0.01 sq ft, so it never mattered for buildings — but across a township survey it accumulated to metres.

Double rounding: Converting, rounding, then converting back does not return the original value. Retain the source figure as authoritative.
Linear factors confused with area factors: 3.28084 converts metres to feet; using it for area understates the result by a factor of about 3.28.
